"God proves His love for us by the fact that Christ died for us when we were still sinners. Therefore, all the more now, being justified by His blood, let us be saved by Him from wrath" (Romans 5: 8,9).
God's forgiveness is more than an excuse for sin. God not only forgives, but also justifies a person, because the just punishment for his sins has already been borne by another-the Savior Jesus.
Acquittal is a legal Divine act that is not like an amnesty or some kind of early release from punishment. God's justification is the admission of a person's innocence.
After the person is acquitted:
- With the help of God, he must be strengthened spiritually in order to avoid further spiritual decline (Jude 24)
- He must not indulge or ignore his sins (Hebrews 10: 26)
- He must constantly be sanctified, that is, grow spiritually (1 Thessalonians 4:3-7)
- It is important to watch and pray (Ephesians 6:18), to study the Bible (1 Timothy 4:16), to know God (Colossians 1:10) and to serve Him (1 Timothy 3:13)
- You need to constantly try to stay in unity with Christ, believing in His power to help (Galatians 2:20; Romans 8:37; 2 Corinthians 2:14)
