Is it important to tithe?
According to the teachings of the Bible, tithing, that is, a tenth of all revenue of the believer, is the Shrine of God, that is belongs to Him (Leviticus 27:30).
God asks you to return tithes to Him, not because that's in need, and to ensure that we remember our dependence on Him and working with Him, receive His blessings (1 Chronicles 29:12, 14).
Tithing has always been a part of sacrificial giving for God's people (2 Chronicles 31: 5, 6; Nehemiah 10: 37, 38). Abraham and Jacob paid tithes long before Moses wrote down the law of God (Genesis 14:20; 28:22). Christ himself supported this rule (Matthew 23: 23).
If in the Old Testament the tithe was used for worship in the temple in Jerusalem and for the maintenance of the clergy (Numbers 18:21), then in the New Testament the tithe belongs to the Church of Christ.
- After the ascension of Jesus Christ became the high Priest in the heavenly Sanctuary (Hebrews 8:1, 2; 9:11, 12) the tithe belongs to Him (Hebrews 7:8, 13-15)
- Jesus is the head of the Church, and the Church is His body (Colossians 1:18; Ephesians 5:23, 30).
- Therefore, Christians should bring tithes to the Lord in the Church (2 Corinthians 9:7; 1 Corinthians 16: 1-3).
The New Testament explains that God's servants must be rewarded for their service in order to devote themselves exclusively to the work of the gospel (1 Corinthians 9:13, 14; Galatians 6:6). Therefore, the Church should use the tithe that members voluntarily donate to support the ministers and to preach the gospel. It is like a chain of salvation: you have learned the message of the gospel because others have been faithful in tithing; now you are helping so that others will receive the same blessings.
