Lesson № 9 Heavenly Constitution What did Jesus and the apostles say about God's law?

In the New Testament, there are several phrases of the Apostle Paul, which, taken out of context, can be taken as the abolition of God's law. But we should not confuse the eternal moral law of God with the ceremonial ordinances, which in the Old Testament symbolically referred to Christ and His sacrifice, and after the fulfillment of the prophecy, when Christ died on the cross, lost their meaning (Romans 10: 4).

The Apostle Paul in these texts spoke about the canceled, fulfilled commandments of the ceremonial law, dedicated to the rituals and holidays associated with the Jerusalem temple, in which people were cleansed from sin. In other texts, the apostle Paul, as well as the other apostles, repeatedly praised the law of God and spoke about its relevance (Romans 3: 31; 7: 12, 14, 16, 22; 1 Corinthians 7:19; 9:9, 10, 20, 21; James 1:25; 2:8-11; 1 John 2:4; 5:3; Revelation 14:12).

Jesus Christ Himself Praised the law of God, speaking of his immutability (Luke 16:17; Matthew 5:17-20; 7:21-23; John 15:10; Revelation 22:14, 15). The Bible also says that even in the last days, God's followers will fulfill the Law, for which they will be persecuted (Revelation 12: 17).

The New Testament teaches that:

  • the true confirmation of love for the Lord is the keeping of His commandments (John 14: 15, 21; 1 John 5: 3).
  • The Lord wants His law to be written in the hearts of men, that is, that the good, wise commandments of God will be in the heart of the true believers of the New Testament (Hebrews 10:16; Jeremiah 31:31-33; Ezekiel 36: 26-28).

The Ten Commandments in brief:

1. I am the Lord, that you may have no other gods before Me;

2. Do not make yourself an idol or any image ... do not worship them or serve them;

3. You shall not speak the name of the Lord your God in vain;

4. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy;

5. Honor your father and your mother;

6. Do not kill;

7. Do not commit adultery;

8. Do not steal;

9. Do not give false testimony;

10. Do not covet your neighbor's house ... nothing that your neighbor has
