Lesson 5.4. Missing in Actions People of the Scripture

Were ALL the People of the book unfaithful in interpreting and obeying the previous revelations?

“…If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors.”

(Surah Al-Imran 3.110)

It is true that there were factions amongst the Christians, whose claims or teachings varied from the Bible and there were many Jews who did not follow what the previous Scriptures said. However, there were faithful People of the Book who were true to the Word of Allah. This scenario is clearly portrayed in the Qur’an as seen above, and the distinction is clear. The Qur’an clearly distinguishes the true People of the Book, who are faithful to the Word of Allah, from those who are not. The “some” are different from the “most,” so there are two kinds of People of the Book.

Question 4: Who among the People of the book have faith?
