Lesson 5.3. Missing in Actions Disobedience

How else did the People of the Book disobey the previous revelations?

The Jews had always kept the Sabbath, which was given by Allah to Prophet Musa (pbuh). However, Muslim believers began to discover that although the day of worship according to the Bible was Saturday (the Sabbath or al-Sabt in Arabic), many of the People of the Book (Christians), were keeping Sunday as the day of the Lord.

And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: ‘Be ye apes, despised and rejected.

Surat Al-Baqarah 2:65

People of the Book (Christians) who kept Sunday as a day of rest, could not prove from the Bible that it was a day of rest, especially since in Arabic the word for Saturday was Al-Sabt (which means, ‘the day of rest’) and Sunday is Yom Al-Ahad (which means, ‘day one’). This was an additional link that seemed to show that Christians were not being faithful in following the previous revelations.
