How do we know that the Bible has not been corrupted AFTER the prophet revealed the Qur’an?
The Dead Sea Scrolls, mentioned in the beginning of this study, assure us of the authenticity of the Bible we have today. The Dead Sea Scrolls existed before Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), and they are the same texts that can be found in today’s Bible. Additionally, we know from the Qur’an that the Bible:
• Was in the possession of Yahya, Maryam, and Isa al-Masih (peace be upon them all) - Surah 3:48; 19:12; 66:12.
• Was with or in the possession of the Jews in the time of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) - Surah 2:41,89,91,101,140; 3:81; 4:47; 5:43; 16:43-44; 21:7.
• Was heard by them - Surah 2:75.
• Was believed in by them - Surah 2:85,91,121; 11:17.
• Was read by them and the Christians - Surah 10:94.
• Was studied by them and the Christians - Surah 3:79; 6:156; 7:169.
• Was recited by them and the Christians - Surah 3:93, 113; 2:44, 113.
• Was available to Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) - Surah 3:93; 28:47-49.
• Was available to anyone in Prophet Muhammad’s (pbuh) time and could be called upon to determine truth in theological disputes - Surah 3:23,93; 7:157; 53:36-38.
From these statements, we know that the Scriptures were circulated and available widely through history, including to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He was not speakingabout something that existed in only one or two scrolls. Rather, there were thousands of copies existing during that time. Any attempt to deliberately change the contents of the Scriptures would have involved collecting all existing copies, burning them all, and producing a new, erroneous one—an impossible task.
